Born in Lewes, England in 1945, John was exhibiting and selling his paintings by his mid-teens – thanks largely to the guidance of his artist grandfather.
From 1962 he studied composition and classical organ under Professor George Austin in Brighton and continued this training after a move to Chichester in 1965, where he met his wife. Over the next ten years he pursued a career in design and landscape architecture whilst switching his musical allegiance to modern jazz and electronic music, a passion which continues to this day.
In 1975 he finally gave in to his true vocation and settled with his family in a rural valley in Devon and began to paint full-time.
Now, his time is divided between studios in Devon and Southwest France.
Favourite places to paint include South Devon and Exmoor, the Languedoc, Provence, the Cote d’Azur, Liguria, Umbria and Tuscany.
